About Isha Vidhya

As part of Isha’s social outreach program, Isha Vidhya, a not-for-profit education initiative, works for the economic and social empowerment of rural children in villages across the southern state of Tamil Nadu, India. Through this effort, the foundation is committed to raising the level of education and literacy in rural India and to helping disadvantaged children realize their full potential.

Isha Vidhya rural schools offer high-quality, English-medium education in a stimulating and joyful atmosphere. The methodological approach has been carefully designed and customized to educate and nurture the wellbeing of rural children on all levels – academically, physically and mentally. As the majority of the children are first-generation leaners, the methodologies employed overcome the lack of mental and sensory stimuli in the child’s forming years by engaging auditory, visual and tactile learning styles to ensure high retention.

Isha Vidhya has been an active supporter of promoting education among girls in the villages, and all schools have seen an increased enrollment of the girl child.

Isha Vidhya currently operates nine schools in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, creating a significant impact in the lives of villagers in the vicinity. The schools cater to more than 7115 children (46% girls), with about 61% of students receiving free education supported by donations under the Isha Vidhya scholarship program.

Isha Vidhya functions on a grass-roots level, relying on community involvement and the support of innumerable volunteers and donors. Check our website and learn more about Isha Vidhya. Join us in our efforts to empower the rural youth of India!
